Quarantine violation – Beijing: man isolates 5000 neighbors

Date:

Because a Beijing resident did not comply with the home quarantine and left home several times, more than 5,000 of his neighbors are now in corona isolation – because the man became positive and would have infected others in his environment. The person concerned was initially instructed to isolate himself at home because he had been identified in a shopping center as the contact person of an infected person.

Five days after the instruction, the man and his wife tested positive. As a result, authorities moved 258 residents of his home to a central quarantine facility. More than 5,000 residents of the area would now also have to isolate themselves at home, Beijing newspaper Ribao wrote Monday. Police have launched a criminal investigation against the 42-year-old.

China continues to pursue a rigorous zero-covid strategy. The world’s most populous country is battling its worst wave of coronavirus since the pandemic began more than two years ago. Shanghai in particular, but also Beijing and other metropolises have repeatedly imposed lockdowns. Hundreds of millions of people in the country are regularly tested.
