The outrage on the one hand and the applause on the other about the tripled parking rates for heavy cars in Paris have not yet subsided; A similar parking fee hammer has already been reported in the first city. In Koblenz, however, the new arrangement seems much more logical: it depends on the length of the cars.
And: unlike in Paris, it only affects local residents. The prices for the “resident parking permit” will be increased there. Starting March 1st. As in Paris, not everyone pays the same amount: rates are spread depending on the size of the vehicle. However, in the French capital, the amount to be paid depends on the weight of the vehicle.
So far the parking fee only costs 30.70 euros – per year! The city council finds this disproportionately cheap and wants to guarantee fairness. The amount of compensation in the future will therefore depend on the road space actually used. The majority of parking spaces in managed areas in Koblenz are unmarked, making the actual size of the vehicles relevant.
In the future, the fee for the relevant resident parking permit will be calculated on the basis of an annual base amount of 23.40 euros (0.45 euros for 52 weeks) multiplied by the relevant length and width of the vehicle in meters. The values stated on the registration certificate (corresponds to the registration certificate in Austria) are decisive for this. Additions to vehicles such as spoilers, bicycle racks and exterior mirrors are not taken into account.
100 Euro plus x
For example, resident parking for a Smart fortwo will cost 104.87 euros for a year in the future, the city council calculates. Owners of a VW Golf 7 will have to pay 179.12 euros in the future. A VW Tiguan costs 196.23 euros per year. In principle, a minimum amount of 100 euros applies.
Resident parking permits that expire on February 29, 2024 can still be extended under the currently applicable conditions.
The city of Tübingen already applies differentiated parking rates for residents: the normal annual rate there is 120 euros. For combustion engines from 1800 kg and electric cars from 2000 kg curb weight, 180 euros must be paid for the parking permit.
