Fire drama in Enns (Upper Austria). A fire broke out in the basement of a residential building. While a mother and her toddler were able to be brought to safety in time, the fire brigade discovered the body of a man in the basement a short time later – the investigation is still ongoing.
Dramatic scenes took place in a residential area in Enns on Tuesday around 8 a.m. A fire broke out in the basement of a two-story single-family home and a 38-year-old resident died in the flames. His sister, who lives upstairs, tried to save her brother. But she failed, as did a police officer who was one of the first on the scene. He tried in vain to enter the basement to rescue the 38-year-old.
Toddler and mother rescued
At the same time, firefighters successfully got a small child and his mother out of the building. However, the man could only be rescued from the cellar dead.
Four people had to be cared for
Several respiratory protection teams have been deployed to fight the fire and carry out extensive extinguishing work. Emergency services treated a total of four people, none of whom had to go to hospital. The police have opened an investigation into the cause of the fire.
