The change of the holiday service will cause traffic chaos on Austrian highways on Saturday. The Fernpass route in Tyrol in particular is used intensively; a traffic jam of 20 kilometers long developed here in the morning. An action by the climate stickers made it even more difficult: they temporarily blocked the long-distance pass route.
The activists of the Last Generation started one of their protests at Fernsteinsee in the morning hours. So they blocked the already slow-moving traffic, holding a poster that read: ‘Listen to the Climate Council.’

Holidaymakers reacted aggressively
However, not all those affected understood this clearly: according to activist Marina Hagen-Canaval, some German holidaymakers behaved very aggressively.
The closure brought southbound traffic to a standstill along the entire route. The action was stopped by the police that morning on instructions from the authorities.
German holidaymakers are currently waiting about three kilometers back when entering the border tunnel in Füssen. There are also delays at the Scharnitz (B177) and Achenpass (B181) border points, as well as in the Oetz and Zillertal valleys.
Strong nerves required
But it was not only in Tyrol that holidaymakers needed strong nerves when traveling: according to the ÖAMTC, motorists driving south were already lost up to an hour and a half late in the morning for the eternal hotspot, the tunnel construction site on the Tauernautobahn (A10) in Salzburg .
There were also delays in Vorarlberg before the Montafon exit on the Rhine Valley Motorway (A14). “The traffic situation in Bavaria suggests that traffic jams will continue at least until Saturday afternoon,” said ÖAMTC traffic experts.
