A tragedy occurred in the Swiss canton of Vaud on Thursday. A 57-year-old Dutch woman with her daughter (25) and her son (22) died after a fall while walking on the Rochers de Naye.
According to police, the trio had been missing since Thursday. The bodies of the victims were discovered on Friday above Veytaux near Montreux. Police and mountain rescue teams searched for the missing people with a large contingent. A Swiss army helicopter was also deployed.
“Many tourists come with sneakers”
There was a commotion at the scene following the tragic discovery. However, hut owners in the neighboring country’s media also criticized the fact that poorly equipped hikers often venture onto the Rochers de Naye.
The problem is that Montreux is very easy to reach by rack railway. “Many tourists come with sneakers and do not realize that they are now in the mountains,” a restaurateur told the news site 20min.ch on Saturday.
