Rush to high schools – school choice: ‘Dramas take place in families’

Date:

In the coming weeks, many primary school students across Austria will have to decide whether they will go to middle school or high school in the fall. Parent representatives from Tyrol describe the pressure children and parents are under in the battle for the supposedly best school places. And they sometimes report absurd effects and even lawsuits. Experts give tips on choosing the right school.

“It’s actually a fight – and dramas happen in families.” That’s what Stefan Boscheri says. Together with Christiane Götz he heads the Tyrolean State Parents’ Association. Families exchange ideas and school problems are discussed there. There is currently another central topic: the aforementioned struggle for a place in high school.
