Early on Saturday evening, several local fire brigades had to respond to a kitchen fire in Sulzberg, Vorarlberg. Three people ended up in hospital with suspected smoke poisoning and the material damage was extensive. And all because of a small accident.
Around 5 p.m. a woman wanted to make soup and turned on a stove, but the wrong one. Fatally, there were several plastic items on the stove that was accidentally turned on and immediately caught fire.
The flames initially went unnoticed by the woman because she had left the kitchen. When she returned, the kitchen was already completely on fire. The woman then alerted the other residents of the apartment complex, who were all able to escape from the building in time.
When firefighters arrived, the flames had spread to the attic. By joining forces, about 150 Florianis from the towns of Sulzberg, Thal, Doren, Langen near Bregenz and Andelsbuch managed to get the fire under control relatively quickly.
However, three people had to be taken to the Bregenz State Hospital for examination due to suspected smoke poisoning. The material damage has not yet been quantified, but is likely to be significant.
