Tragic accident Tuesday afternoon in Niederthalheim. At 11:35 a.m., four fire departments were called to a wooded area. The alarm read: ‘Person captured.’ However, when emergency services arrived, the full drama became clear.
An excavator operator crashed his vehicle about 50 feet down a steep embankment while cleaning up after wind damage. The man was trapped in the driver’s cabin after the accident. Colleagues immediately provided first aid to the fallen man and also called the emergency services.
Many emergency services knew the victim
“We then started freeing the person. “The emergency doctor was only able to determine death,” said Erich Neudorfer, commander of the Niederthalheim fire brigade. The operation was particularly demanding for the volunteers, as many knew the victim and the family business.
Crisis intervention team on site
The Red Cross crisis intervention team had to receive the shocked colleagues. Relatives of the excavator driver are said not to have been present at the tragedy. The police are still investigating how the fatal accident could have happened.
