For reasons that are still unclear, a fire broke out in a public indoor swimming pool in Murau on Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured.
Around 3:30 p.m., the innkeeper of the local indoor pool restaurant became aware of the fire after noticing the burning smell in the open restaurant. During an inspection, the man eventually noticed smoke coming from the basement beneath the restaurant. The alarmed construction technician could no longer safely enter the smoke-filled basement space at that time, after which he alerted the fire brigade. Nearly 30 emergency services from the Murau and St. Georgen ob Murau fire brigades were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
No injuries
The indoor pool was closed at this time (Tuesday), so there were no swimmers present. The total of 13 people in the restaurant were able to get to safety in time. Apparently the fire started in the sauna room. However, the precise circumstances and causes of the fire are still unclear and are the subject of investigation by a “district fire investigator”. The extent of the material damage caused has not yet been determined. No one was injured.
