If the Commission believes the agreement is being violated and makes a proposal, this could be seen at the summit of European leaders scheduled for March 21 and 22 in Brussels, according to government sources.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezand the Prime Minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkarhave sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyenin which they ask you to urgently check yourself whether Israel is complying with its association agreement with the European Unionespecially regarding respect for the human rightsand if you find that this is not the case, propose appropriate measures.
In the letter they point out that this request is made in the context of the risk of an even greater humanitarian catastrophe arising from the imminent threat of Israeli military operations in Rafah and taking into account what has happened and continues to happen in Gaza since October 2023, including widespread concerns about possible violations of international humanitarian law.
If the Commission believes the agreement is being violated and makes a proposal, this could be seen at the summit of European leaders scheduled for March 21 and 22 in Brussels, according to government sources.
Both presidents also ask not to lose sight of the imperative need for a political perspective to end the conflict and advocate the application of the two-state solution as the only way to guarantee that “this cycle of violence does not repeat itself.”
