Basque institutions adopt ten commitments to support and support the primary sector

Among the ten points of the decalogue approved by the Basque government and the provincial councils, the simplification of the management and processing of aid for the sector stands out, as well as the adoption of the Code of Good Business Practices in Food Contracts in Euskadi.

The Basque Government and the Provincial Councils of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa have adopted a ten-point decalogue with specific commitments to support and support the primary sector in the Basque Autonomous Community, given the crisis situation in the sector.

As explained by the Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, the Basque institutions will work together with the competent administrations to achieve an application of the community rules that is fair, flexible and adapted to the specific reality of Euskadi, which reduce bureaucratic burdens and make sure non-EU productions Meet the the same European standards.

Likewise, they are committed to simplifying and facilitating the process of managing and processing aid for the primary sector, “ensuring fair and efficient access to available resources.”

Third, they will work with the competent authorities to effectively implement the Food Chain Law in Euskadi, “to promote equality, transparency and sustainability at all links of the food value chain.” At this point they will promote the adoption of the Code of Good Business Practice in Food Contracts in Euskadi.

They will also be used to promote the protection and optimization of agricultural land use, “recognizing its essential value for the primary sector and for environmental sustainability.”

Fifth, they will seek to harmonize environmental policy with agricultural activities, “by promoting a mutual understanding that recognizes the crucial role of agriculture in the conservation of the environment and its coexistence with wildlife.”

Likewise, they are committed to rejuvenating the agricultural sector, “promoting the access of young farmers and ranchers through comprehensive support in their training, advice and access to resources.” In addition, specific attention will be paid to gender at this point, promoting its presence and leadership transversally in all proposed commitments.

Seventh, they will establish an aid program that is “stable, adaptive and effectively responds to the specific needs of each agricultural sector.”

Eighth, they will work to strengthen the agricultural insurance system as an essential preventive measure, “especially in light of the challenges posed by climate change, until they fully take over the transfer of agricultural insurance powers.”

Likewise, they are committed to promoting innovation and the use of advanced technologies in the agricultural sector, supporting projects that include new cultivation techniques, sustainable management of resources and digitalization of processes to improve the efficiency, competitiveness and sustainability of the sector, and thus the quality of life of professional people.

Finally, they will seek to strengthen the Basque primary sector, “ensuring that it has a strong and decisive voice within the administrative structure of Euskadi.”
