The Tyrolean village of Trins at 1200 meters above sea level not only has a fascinating mountain backdrop. A different treasure is displayed there every year during Lent. The oldest Lenten cloth of its kind in Tyrol, which still hangs in a church. A work of art that poses puzzles – looking for clues in the Gschnitztal.
White gloves are not part of the daily attire of Ludwig Gogl and his colleagues. But twice a year the men from Trins put on this accessory by museum employees, restorers and art historians: on Ash Wednesday and during Holy Week. We are in the idyllic Gschnitztal, which has been awarded the title of ‘mountain village’ by the Alpine Club due to its authenticity.
