Four boys in Steyr used prison to pay for a gift for a friend. Instead of buying it, they stole it at gunpoint and have now been found guilty for it. One boy had ignored the fact that his birthday had far-reaching consequences. But a day after the conviction they were allowed to leave their cells.
They attacked a 21-year-old in Steyr to fulfill a friend’s wish for a mobile phone. Four boys (17, 18) bought a Glock signal pistol and also had a butterfly knife with them. They stole the desired smartphone and also took a smartwatch from the victim. But because the attacker knew a perpetrator, the coup of December last year was quickly resolved.
Two days were crucial
The quartet was taken into custody, a companion who allegedly filmed everything remained free until the trial for aggravated robbery at the Steyr Regional Court. Because one of the boys had turned 18 two days before the attack, he was threatened with a maximum of 15 years in prison instead of 7.5 years. He was no longer considered a teenager, but a young adult. An accomplice, who turned 18 in custody, appeared in court as a teenager with half the maximum sentence.
Guilty verdict without penalty
The robbers were sentenced to partial prison terms of ten months (two severe) to 24 months (four unconditional). The day after the verdict they went home because of the time served and the provisional detention granted or the conditional release granted. The girl (16) was found guilty, but without punishment. She can pull this out the next time she does something stupid.
