Serious animal cruelty – A farmer from Vorarlberg tore out the tongues of cattle

Date:

The outrage is great: in the Bregenzerwald a farmer has to answer for serious animal abuse. When one of his cattle wouldn’t go into the stable for trimming, he tied a rope around the animal’s tongue and pulled so hard that the tongue was torn off.

The farmer no longer cared about the injured cattle. The cattle were transported to the slaughterhouse in Salzburg. Those responsible had nothing to complain about during both the live inspection and the subsequent meat inspection.

However, the farmer is not only being investigated for serious animal abuse. He will probably also have to answer for illegal drug trafficking. He is accused of importing antibiotics and cortisone from Germany and administering them to the animals.

Consequences for consumers uncertain
It is uncertain what concrete consequences this will have for consumers of milk and meat. If antibiotics are taken through food, this may mean that certain medications given by the doctor no longer work. While milk is checked regularly, meat is only checked randomly.
