Family survived – Sad certainty: Hamas hostage (59) dead again

Date:

Nothing is known about the whereabouts of more than a hundred hostages kidnapped by the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 7. In any case, Yair Yaakov’s family is sadly certain that the 59-year-old will no longer have to suffer. His kibbutz announced the death of the Israeli hostage. His wife and two of his children were released at the end of November thanks to the hostage situation.

Yaakov was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz. His family hoped for months that he – like them – would eventually return home. But it is suspected that he has been dead since the major attack on Israel. It is possible that only his body was brought to the Gaza Strip by the terrorists.

This post features Yair Yaakov and his wife and sons – the latter were rescued.

Criticism of the attack on a Palestinian clinic
Meanwhile, the United Nations human rights office is leveling accusations against Israel following the recent military operation in a Palestinian clinic. “The operation appears to be part of a pattern: Israeli forces are attacking vital civilian infrastructure, especially hospitals,” UN human rights spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said in Geneva on Thursday evening. “The impact on the civilian population is terrible,” she lamented.

Israeli soldiers entered the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, on Thursday to retrieve dead hostages, the army said. Several suspects were arrested. A military spokesman spoke of a “precise and limited operation”. The military says there is credible intelligence that Hamas was holding hostages at the clinic. The information could not initially be verified.

In times of conflict, medical facilities must always be protected, Shamdasani emphasized. Even if Israel claims that a clinic has been used by the enemy, the Israeli military must still act prudently and proportionately under international law, the spokeswoman emphasized.
