When you see the photo of the accident scene, it is difficult to imagine that a 16-year-old American girl survived this incident: the teenager hung from an overhead wire at a height of ten meters for an hour after losing control of her vehicle . Although Kennedy Littledike lost a leg, she believes the accident even saved her life – and wants to encourage others on social media.
Littledike, of Idaho, drove some friends home shortly after sunset on May 22, 2021. She later revealed to “Inside Edition” that she was depressed from heartache and suffered an emotional breakdown while driving on a lonely country road: “I had a fit of crying and jerked the steering wheel to the right. We skidded and crashed into a utility pole. I wasn’t wearing a harness and was thrown out, hanging upside down from the power line by my broken leg.”
The crazy thing: Littledike only survived because she received an electric shock when she came into contact with the cable. Her broken femur had punctured her artery and Littledike would have bled out within minutes had the electric shock not etched her leg artery, stopping the bleeding.
After amputation: ‘I thought my life was over’
It took an hour for a local resident to find the three unconscious, seriously injured teenagers. Littledike had it by far the worst. In addition to her femur, she also broke her upper arm, sternum and collarbone and required a total of 21 operations. Surgeons tried unsuccessfully to save the high school student’s left leg. but were unsuccessful.
She learned about the amputation after waking up from her father: “At that moment I was sure my life was over. But then I was told that my friend and her boyfriend had not lost any limbs. That suddenly made me happy; As the driver I was fully responsible for the accident.”
Littledike decided “in that second” to make the best of her fate. She shares her fate on her social media channels with great humor: “The first thing I did was to nickname my leg stump Gobi and even came up with a dance for it. As the circumstances of my accident made headlines everywhere, I gained an incredible following.”
Teenagers today are happier than before the accident
In fact, Littledike believes the accident ultimately saved her life. She previously suffered from severe depression: “I almost committed suicide a few times. I saw no future for myself. Now I look back and think ‘Wow, I was so stupid’. “I’m much happier on one leg today than I’ve ever been.” The boyfriend she was sad about is now back together with her.
