Three workers were killed on Friday when an attic collapsed at a construction site for a supermarket in Florence. Two workers were rescued alive from the rubble and are in critical condition in hospital. Two other men were still missing. They could be under one of the fallen pillars.
Dog units are deployed in the search for missing persons. According to rescue units, one of the roof’s large support beams collapsed along with the attic. A supermarket would be built at the site of the accident.
“Afraid to hear”
“I was at home and taking a shower. I heard a bang and ran outside to investigate. “You can hear the screams of the workers calling for help,” one witness said. Florence Mayor Dario Nardella is currently in Israel and Palestine. He announced on Platform X that he expected to return to Italy on the first available flight. “I have declared the city in mourning tomorrow and stopped all events.”
