This is the largest exodus in Europe since the end of World War II. According to data provided by the UN refugee agency on Wednesday, nearly one in ten Ukrainians have left their country in just a month.
In a little over a month, more than four million people have fled Ukraine by the war, according to data from UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency. According to the United Nations, this is the fastest exodus in Europe since World War II.
It is estimated that nearly one in ten Ukrainians have left their country since the Russian invasion began. More than half of these refugees have arrived in neighboring countries Polandwhere some 2.3 million Ukrainians live, while there are about 600,000 Romaniawhere thousands of them pass through the neighboring Moldavia
In the rest of the neighboring countries Ukraine Hungary has taken in 364,000 refugees, Russia 350,000, Slovakia 281,000 and Belarus 10,900, according to updated UNHCR calculations.
It is also estimated that more than 6.5 million Ukrainian men and women have moved within Ukraine itselfso that about 11 million Ukrainians, a quarter of the total population, have left their homes to flee the war.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) last week estimated that more than half of Ukraine’s 7.5 million minors have been forced to leave their homes in just over a month of war.
