European Union leaders agreed late Monday that the Russian oil embargo in retaliation for the war in Ukraine omit the veto on all crude oil reaching the bloc via pipeline, a request from Hungary supported by Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

“Agreement to ban Russian oil exports to the EU. It immediately covers more than two-thirds of imports from Russia, cutting off a huge source of funding for its war machine,” the European Council president announced on Twitter. Charles Michael

The pact therefore covers the import of oil by sea and leave the veto on the oil transported by pipeline from Russia to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakiaa demand that Hungarian Viktor Orbán had handed over to the bloc’s partners for weeks.
