Stripped light poles – Belgrade: Passenger plane “cut through” during take-off

Date:

Passengers who wanted to fly from Belgrade to Düsseldorf with Marathon Airlines on Sunday did not get far. Only after the end of the runway were the pilots able to pull the Embraer E-195 into the air. But the passenger plane hit several light poles and navigation antennas and had to turn back.

The plane, which is leased by Air Serbia to Marathon Airlines, only reached an altitude of about 1,200 meters, but completing the route was out of the question. The damage to the fuselage, left wing and elevator was absolutely serious, airportal.hu reports.

The Embraer E-195 turned back and landed safely back at Belgrade Airport. Passengers and crew were unharmed. They were escorted from the accident plane by rescuers.

The cause of the accident has not yet been clarified
The leak in the fuselage caused fuel to flow out of the aircraft. As a precaution, the fire brigade sprayed extinguishing foam to prevent a fire from starting. It is still unknown how this dangerous incident occurred and why it took so long for the pilots to take off the plane. Air Serbia said on Sunday evening that there was a “technical defect”. However, no further information was disclosed.
