Diocese: “Scandal”! – Priest heavily trafficked in Viagra: arrested

Date:

A priest has been arrested in Spain for illegally trafficking in the sexual enhancer Viagra. This must have increased the preacher’s income considerably, because according to initial findings, the man’s customer base seems to have grown continuously.

Along with the priest, another man was taken into custody in Don Benito in the country’s western province of Badajoz, authorities said on Tuesday. The second man is the alleged life partner and “business partner” of the priest. Viagra is available by prescription in both Spain and Austria and is only legally available with a prescription.

During searches of the parish and the apartments of the two men, large quantities of prescription drugs and other strong sexual enhancers were seized. During Monday’s police operation, other locations in Don Benito and the surrounding area of the community were also searched. The investigation was still ongoing on Tuesday and further arrests could not be ruled out, the report said.

Great turmoil in communities
According to the findings, the arrested priest, one of a total of six priests in Don Benito, had a large and constantly growing client base, the newspaper “El Mundo” and other Spanish media reported, citing investigative circles. There are customers who have already admitted to purchasing Viagra and other sexual enhancers from the two men.

The arrest of the Catholic priest caused an uproar in the community, which has a population of almost 38,000, because Father Alfonso was very popular and respected among community members. The diocese of Plasencia, to which Don Benito belongs, issued a statement deploring the “scandal” that caused “pain and suffering.” They said they wanted to work with authorities to resolve the case.
