Fear for a dog owner on Sunday afternoon in Linz-Kleinmünchen. Somehow, the little Yorkshire Terrier “Doll” managed to escape from home. When his owner noticed this, the dog had to be treated by the vet for serious bite wounds. What happened?
According to the owner, “Doll” had only been outside alone for 30 minutes. Witnesses claim that during this period they saw “Doll” being attacked by a larger dog – it could have been a husky – on the Vogelfangerweg in Linz-Kleinmünchen.
No surgery was necessary
“According to one woman, the dog was literally beaten. He had bite marks on both sides of his chest. We immediately took the dog to the vet,” says Georg P. of the Animal Ambulance Linz and the Animal Protection ICARA. The doctor was then able to rule out a chest and lung injury. No surgery was necessary.
It is unclear whether the dog was on a leash
The bite victim is now doing “relatively well considering the circumstances”. But the vet treatments have not yet been completed and the owner will probably be left with the costs. The owner of the attacker, who ran away after the attack, is not known. It is unclear whether the dog was even on a leash at the time of the attack.
“Many people take advantage of the moment of shock after such an attack and disappear. “It’s just like the motorists who cause parking damage and then continue driving,” says the animal rescuer, comparing the situation.
