The timetable has been set; this must be taken into account in the EU elections on 9 June

Date:

The Austrian members of the EU Parliament will be elected on Sunday, June 9. If you are not at home, you can request a voting card in writing no later than June 5. The application can be submitted in person for an additional two days.

You can then hand in a completed voting card by post or at any polling station in the country. Austrians aged 16 and over – even if they live abroad – and EU citizens whose main residence is in Austria have the right to vote. The government has set a deadline of March 26. Deadlines such as registering in the electoral register and collecting statements of support for parties are based on this.

What voter registration means
This means: Anyone who has recently moved abroad or come to Austria must apply for registration before March 26. EU citizens living here can decide whether they want to vote for Austrian MPs or MPs from their country of origin. If someone discovers that they have entered incorrectly, they have until mid-May to appeal.

Here you can see an overview of the EU-wide top candidates.

Parties that do not yet have a seat in the National Council or the EU Parliament need 2,600 expressions of support to be elected. Eligible voters have until April 26 to sign. The parties must then submit their election proposal to the Federal Election Authority no later than this day.

Austria’s best-known top candidates are Reinhold Lopatka (ÖVP), Andreas Schieder (SPÖ), Harald Vilimsky (FPÖ), Lena Schilling (Greens) and Helmut Brandstätter (NEOS) (see video above).
