Due to the very large influx of migrants, school locations in Vienna are at their limits. From the autumn we will switch to container classes.
Capital is growing – which also pushes schools to the limit. Mobile classes are now being planned as a stopgap solution. According to Education Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS), containers could be set up at a total of seven locations, each with a maximum of twelve education rooms. The main reason for the measure is the recent family reunifications in the asylum sector, it is said. Several new school locations are opened every year, creating approximately 1,200 new classes in the past ten years.
But the trend continues: recently, crisis and war events or an increase in demand in the field of special education have led to an increase in the number of students.
The mobile systems are expected to be put into use in the autumn. The costs of setting up the container classes are estimated at 14 million euros.
This should solve the space problem, but not the teacher shortage, which persists despite all efforts.
