On Thursday evening, an 18-year-old new driver from the Graz area tried to escape control of the driver and the vehicle. He raced through the city of Graz at a speed of about 100 km/h and crashed into a light pole. His 15-year-old passenger was injured.
Around 1:45 a.m., police attempted to stop a vehicle on Plüddemanngasse Graz for a routine check of the driver and vehicle. The 18-year-old driver stopped briefly, but then immediately pressed the accelerator again and tried to avoid control.

The police officers started the chase through the city of Graz and the driver accelerated to 100 km/h. He then lost control in a bend and crashed head-on into a light pole. The driver and 15-year-old passenger were able to free themselves from the car.
The alcohol test was positive and the driver’s license was revoked. He is accused of multiple offenses. His minor passenger was taken to the LKH Children’s Hospital Graz with minor injuries.
