165 passengers of the American airline United Airlines recently experienced anxious minutes. A passenger aboard the Boeing 757-200 recorded video showing parts of the plane’s right wing detaching.
“We’re about to land in Denver because the wing of the plane is falling apart,” passenger Kevin Clark says in the video. “It fell apart when we took off from San Francisco and just landed. I can’t wait for this flight to be over.”
Jet makes an emergency landing in Denver
Clarke was one of 165 passengers aboard the Boeing, which was en route from San Francisco to Boston on Monday, when part of the right wing literally crumbled. He then captured on video the plane having to make an emergency landing in Denver, Colorado, nearly 2,000 miles (about 3,200 kilometers) from its intended destination.
“We took off, I heard a loud buzzing noise and then it went away, so I didn’t think much of it,” Clarke said. But suddenly the pilot returned. He told US media that he looked outside and discovered that “the entire leading edge of the wing had been destroyed.”
The US Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident
The plane landed in Denver to resolve “a slat issue,” United Airlines said. It is still unclear what the cause of the damage is. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it is investigating the incident.
Boeing is under great pressure after an incident in January. At that time, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 lost part of its cabin while flying over the US state of Oregon. The more than 170 people on board escaped in horror.
