After the death of Heidi Horten – Where the billionaire’s animal estate lives

Date:

Heidi Horten-Goëss, who died in 2022, left behind art, homes around the world, private jets and a superyacht. Her heart also beat especially for the animal world. Before she died, she had eleven dogs, five cats and two parrots. What happened to the billionaire’s zoo?

Nearly two years after the death of Wörthersee billionaire Heidi Goëss-Horten, many are wondering what actually happened to their pets. The animal lover and supporter of the Animal Competence Center in Klagenfurt recently housed a total of eleven dogs, five cats and two parrots in her villa in Sekirn.

As research by “Krone” has revealed, there are two cats – “Max” and “Ebony” – in the Klagenfurt animal shelter. Ten dogs and the two birds have now been taken in by friends and relatives of the billionaire in Spain and Carinthia.

“One of my nieces took care of the animals. I am sure they will not miss anything in their new family in Spain,” said Kari Goëss, the husband of the late billionaire. She especially loved her French bulldogs and Labradors.

Pets traveled in private jets
“When she traveled to one of her many homes, she would often bring the dogs along,” said Hellmuth Reichel, her primary care physician. Thanks to a private jet, that was no problem at all. The billionaire owned a Gulfstream 650 HB-APR worth about $70 million. “This aircraft has the longest range of any private jet,” says Reichel. Visits to the vet were also made by plane, both in Vienna and Switzerland.

Cats have found a new home at the animal shelter
In 2019, Heidi Horten-Goëss donated two paintings to TiKo. In one photo the protector can be seen with two of her beloved dogs, in the other photo her parrots can be seen. Just like her two cats “Max” and “Ebony”, they are a reminder of the generous benefactor who covered a third of the construction costs of the animal competence center in 2011. The velvet paws were handed over to the animal shelter after the death of their owner. You have found a new home here. ‘Ebony’, small, gray and well-fed, parading through its territory day in and day out, attracts special attention from visitors.

“Little Ebony is the countess of the animal shelter,” the zookeepers laugh. By the way, the cat and the red-and-white tomcat “Max” cannot be forgiven. Heidi and her first husband, Helmut Horten, were closely associated with the care of neglected animals. The department store billionaire had sparked his wife’s love for animals. And the animal shelter is eternally grateful to Heidi Horten-Goëss for the help. The Tiko Competence Center now serves 1,000 people annually. Heidi gave 20,000 animals the chance for a new life.
