According to the municipality of Maria Wörth, increasing criticism and decreasing acceptance in combination with climate change are the reasons why the GTI meeting at Lake Wörthersee in Carinthia is no longer taking place.
Since 1982, the GTI meeting has brought money and attention to the Wörthersee and Reifnitz, but that is now over. Over the years, more and more tuning fans came to Carinthia during the Ascension weekend
“The huge increase in the number of participants has also increasingly shown the limits of the potential growth and resilience of our community and the entire Wörthersee region,” says Markus Perdacher, mayor of the municipality of Maria Wörth. “The side effects have led to increasing criticism and decreasing acceptance of the annual meeting.”
With regard to climate change, the municipality wants to align its actions at all levels with the principles of sustainability. “That is why the municipality of Maria Wörth will no longer organize conventional major car events in the coming years,” explains Perdacher. The spaces that were previously used for the meeting will be given a new purpose.
