One person was killed and another eight injured, some seriously, in a terrorist attack near Jerusalem. According to the police, the perpetrators shot at people on a highway. They got out of their vehicles during a traffic jam and suddenly resorted to automatic weapons.
According to police, the incident (see video above) took place between the settler town of Maale Adumim and Jerusalem. There were three perpetrators from Palestine between the ages of 26 and 31. Two of them were shot on the spot, the third was found trying to escape and was also killed. The background to the incident was initially unknown. One Israeli was killed in the attack. Rescuers said another eight people were injured, two of them seriously.
It is the second gun attack within a week. On Friday, attackers shot dead two people in an attack on a bus station in southern Israel.
Attacks in Gaza increased
The Israeli army has been waging war against the Islamist Hamas for more than four months. Recently, the air force has stepped up its attacks on targets in the city of Rafah. According to an eyewitness, a certain neighborhood (al-Shabura) was attacked on Thursday evening. Hamas said 99 people were killed in the attacks.
Since the start of the war, more than a million people have fled to Rafah, near the border with Egypt. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the area is the “last remaining bastions of Hamas.”
