Shocking moment for a driver driving on the Swiss A13 on Tuesday: Suddenly smoke came from the engine compartment and shortly afterwards the car was on fire.
Every motorist’s nightmare became reality on Tuesday morning around 7:20 am on the Swiss A13 between St. Margrethen and Sargans, just behind the border with Vorarlberg: a 39-year-old man was driving his car in the first lane of the A13 motorway when he noticed that the car suddenly stopped performing normally. The car also started to smoke heavily.
He drove his car onto the emergency lane, got out and opened the hood. Not only was a deep black, thick cloud of smoke rising, but flames were already licking up under the hood. Shortly afterwards, the car completely went up in flames and the meter-high flames were visible from afar. The fire brigade that arrived on site eventually extinguished the fire and the material damage is estimated at around 14,000 francs (14,000 euros), a costly affair. The cause of the fire was probably a technical defect.
