The minister estimates: – The reconstruction of Ukraine will take ten years

Date:

Ukraine’s deputy prime minister estimates that rebuilding his country could take up to 10 years, assuming the war is now over. The most urgent damage can probably be repaired within one to three years.

“But overall it would take five to 10 years,” said Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov. The World Bank, the European Union and the United Nations estimate the cost of reconstruction so far at 500 billion euros (see video above). The direct damage amounted to approximately 142 billion euros at the end of last year. This includes damaged highways and freeways, broken train stations and bridges.

Two years after the start of the war, 20 percent of Ukraine is occupied. According to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), approximately 6.5 million people have fled abroad. According to recent surveys, the clear majority (65) believe that they will be able to return to Ukraine one day. According to Kubrakov, Germany’s reconstruction and military aid are already helping war refugees return to their home countries. “Hundreds of thousands of people are already coming back.”

Air defense systems provide protection
The air defense systems supplied would play a special role in protection. “This protection will help refugees from Germany decide to return to Ukraine,” the deputy head of government said. Most military aid so far has come from the US, followed by Germany. As a neutral country, Austria only provides humanitarian aid.
