Visit to the front – Baerbock has to flee from a Russian drone

Date:

On Sunday, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was in Ukraine. During a visit to the frontline city of Mykolaiv in the south of the country, the politician became embroiled in the reality of the war. The chief diplomat was apparently followed by a Russian reconnaissance drone.

On Sunday, Baerbock had to cancel his visit to a water treatment plant in the southern Ukrainian city financed with German aid. The incident occurred as air raid sirens sounded and a Russian reconnaissance drone pursued the politician and her team, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on the sidelines of the Green politician’s trip.

Baerbock fled in an armored vehicle
What is particularly explosive is that such sightings are often followed by a direct missile strike. The residents of Mykolaiv were warned by text message and instructed to go to the nearest bomb shelter. The delegation members had previously been asked to quickly return to the armored vehicles of Baerbock’s column.

It was said that staying on the road was the safest option in this situation. According to the information, the drone switched off a short time later.

Millions more from Germany
Before her escape, Baerbock promised Ukraine another 100 million euros in humanitarian aid for Ukraine. The money would be used to help people in the attacked country rebuild their water supply, hospitals and homes.

“Putin’s terror continues here every day,” the foreign minister said, referring to the Russian president. “But the people here in Ukraine are making it clear: no single day, no single attack will destroy their fight for survival.” It is therefore important “that we continue our military assistance not only for self-defense, for the liberation of villages.”

Above all, Germany will continue to promote its humanitarian aid for reconstruction. In June, the German government is planning an international reconstruction conference in Berlin to support Ukraine.

On Saturday evening, Baerbock had to go to a reception center in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa after an air raid siren.
