After a male body was discovered by a fisherman in Lake Neusiedler on Wednesday, its identity has now been clarified. According to the police, it is clearly the skater who has been missing since January 15.
A fisherman found the body of the 55-year-old at the edge of the reeds between Podersdorf and Illmitz (Neusiedl am See district). According to police spokesman Helmut Marban, initial investigations have ruled out foul play.
Major search
The man did not return from a skating trip to Rust in mid-January. A search has been underway since then, initially using tugboats on the ice and later using sonar boats in the water.
A search was also conducted with drones and helicopters, but at the end of January only the skater’s backpack was initially found.
