The President of the United States has dropped the possibility of opening a maritime corridor to ease the entry of aid, and has promised that he will push for Israel to also facilitate the entry of more trucks.
United States President Joe Biden on Friday announced the next airdrop of packages containing food and medicine in the Gaza Strip and dropped the possibility of a maritime corridor to facilitate humanitarian access to the enclave.
“The aid flowing to Gaza is not enough. Innocent lives are at stake. Children’s lives are at stake,” the president said at the start of a White House meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
However, during his announcement Biden is confused and has mentioned Ukraine when he talked about Gaza. “In the coming days, we will work with our friends in Jordan and others to provide airdrops of food and supplies for Ukraine (sic). We will look at opening other routes to Ukraine (sic), including the possibility of a maritime corridor to deliver large quantities of food,” he said.
The American president has promised that he will insist that Israel also facilitate this arrival of more trucks and the opening of new land routes for the access of humanitarian aid to the enclave. “There should be hundreds of trucks, not just a few. I will not stand still. We are trying to do everything possible to get more help,” he said.
Similarly, Biden has said he hopes an agreement will be reached “soon” on the release of prisoners from the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas and a six-week ceasefire that will allow aid to enter the entire Strip.
