Authorities say at least two people have been killed and eight others injured in a new Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian Black Sea city of Odessa. Saturday’s attack destroyed part of a nine-story apartment building — a total of 18 apartments, according to authorities. Among the injured were a three-year-old child and a pregnant woman.
There may be more people under the rubble. Odessa Region Governor Oleh Kiper said Saturday morning.

Photos and videos from authorities showed severe destruction and a field of rubble. Helpers were present. One person was also killed in a drone strike in the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the families. Ukraine needs stronger air defense “to effectively protect our people from Russian terror,” he wrote on Platform X. “More air defense systems and more anti-aircraft missiles save lives.”
Odessa has been repeatedly targeted by Russian drone strikes
According to Ukrainian anti-aircraft forces, seven out of eight drones were shot down in Odessa alone on Saturday evening. Russia is repeatedly attacking the Black Sea metropolis with missiles in the war of aggression that has been going on for more than two years.
“Russia is killing civilians,” the head of the Ukrainian presidential government, Andriy Yermak, wrote on Telegram. “We need help to stop this.”
Ukraine has been demanding significantly more air defense support from the West for months with additional anti-aircraft systems to better protect its cities against Russian attacks. According to Ukrainian anti-aircraft forces, a total of fourteen drones and a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet were shot down on Saturday evening.
