Oil storage as target? – St. Petersburg: Drone explodes in residential building

Date:

Several people were injured in an explosion in a five-storey residential building in the Russian metropolis of Saint Petersburg on Saturday. Local media reported that a drone had exploded. Governor Alexander Beglov spoke only of an “incident” and promised help to the residents of the damaged apartments.

Authorities said six people sought medical attention. A 92-year-old woman was taken to hospital.

Psychologists in action
Other residents were placed in a kindergarten. Psychologists also have a duty to care for those affected, the report said. Videos circulated on social networks showing a huge explosion.

Possible attack on oil depots in Saint Petersburg
There was no comment from the Russian Defense Ministry. The St. Petersburg news portal “Fontanka” reported that the drone may have targeted a nearby oil depot. Drone defense is also used there.

St. Petersburg has so far hardly been hit by missiles in the Ukraine war, which has been going on for two years. However, Ukraine had announced that the range of its drones was increasing.

Deaths in Russian drone strikes on Odessa
A few hours earlier, Russian drone strikes were reported on the Ukrainian city of Odessa, killing at least two people.

In its defensive struggle against the invasion of its neighbor, Ukraine also repeatedly attacks targets in the Russian hinterland. This will disrupt supplies for Russian troops.

Counter-attacks in border regions and inland
The Russian border regions are particularly affected by the Ukrainian counterattacks. But targets deeper inland were also hit. Of course, the damage cannot in any way be compared to the daily Russian attacks on Ukraine, which bring death and destruction to the country.
