Caught on a protective path – alcohol driver rammed into a cyclist: Styrian death

A tragic traffic accident occurred in Leibnitz in Styria on Tuesday evening. A heavily intoxicated motorist caught a 53-year-old who was just crossing a protection path on her bicycle. The cyclist has died.

The cyclist from the Leibnitz district was on the protection path on Dechant-Thaller-Strasse around 6:30 PM when the driver, a 40-year-old woman, ran over the zebra crossing and overtook the cyclist.

Police ask for witnesses
The 53-year-old was fatally injured. A doctor and a police officer immediately provided first aid at the accident site and were able to resuscitate the woman in the first instance, but even the rescue helicopter that had already landed was ultimately unable to help – the cyclist died at the accident site. Police are now looking for witnesses.
