Courageous deployment of the bodyguards of Minister of the Interior Karner: the bodyguards were life-saving at 130 km/h…
It is currently a topic of discussion among the elite Cobra Corps. Dramatic scenes unfolded on Thursday evening during a business trip of Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) on the Stockerauer Expressway in Lower Austria. What happened? Traveling at 130 km/h in the dark around 7 p.m., the bodyguards at the wheel or in the back of the armored ministerial support vehicle noticed a car parked sideways in the middle of the road between the first and second lanes near Grafenwörth in the direction of Krems an der Donau – danger to life!
Medical emergency – car window smashed
In addition to providing personal protection in plain clothes, the elite police officers, who were also trained for terrorist operations and arresting serious criminals, responded immediately with presence of mind. They pulled their company limousine behind it and looked inside the car: there they saw a motionless person – what later turned out to be an acute medical emergency, apparently an epileptic seizure – slumped behind the wheel. The minister’s bodyguards then used a flashlight to break the passenger side window and administered first aid. Thanks to the quick and perfect rescue chain of the minister’s bodyguards, the 33-year-old driver regained consciousness.
An emergency doctor who was alerted at the same time continued to treat the man on the highway and the patient was taken to the Tulln State Hospital (Lower Austria) for medical examination.
Accident dramas can also be prevented through insurance
The young man is now on the road to recovery. Thanks to the quick intervention of the emergency command and the safety measures taken by the officers of the Krems Motorway Police Station at the scene of the accident, the driver was ultimately saved – and a possible accident tragedy due to the vehicle being parked sideways was prevented.
