German Ambassador to Russia Alexander Graf Lambsdorff arrived in Moscow for a meeting at the Foreign Ministry. The Russian state news agency TASS reports that the summons is due to the recently published recordings of a telephone conversation of German air force officers that were intercepted by Russia.
According to dpa, Lambsdorff went to a meeting that had been planned long in advance. Neither the press service nor the ambassador himself commented on this for the time being. The intercepted telephone conversation was about the possible use of Taurus cruise missiles in Ukraine.
No consequences in Germany for the time being
On Friday, Russian state television published a recording of a confidential telephone conference between senior officers of the Bundeswehr. At the same time as the publication, Russia made serious accusations against Germany. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on Sunday that he did not want to draw any personnel consequences for the time being.
The Neue Zürcher Zeitung also criticized German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on Monday. “This is not just a military failure. It is a political scandal and it shows that the Bundeswehr is in a terrible state.”
