World Criminal Court: – Arrest warrants issued against Russian officers

Date:

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued two arrest warrants for senior Russian officers. The reason for this is alleged war crimes in Ukraine, such as rocket attacks on civilian targets between October 2022 and March 2023.

According to the court in The Hague, Sergei Kobylash (58) is a lieutenant general and commander of the Long-Range Air Force of the Russian Air Force. The second suspected war criminal is Viktor Sokolov, naval admiral and former commander of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. The two men are accused of being responsible for rocket attacks on power plants. They are also accused of crimes against humanity because the attacks caused serious damage to the civilian population.

The court in the Netherlands said on Tuesday that there were “sufficient reasons to believe that the two suspects were responsible for rocket attacks carried out by the units under their command on the Ukrainian power grid.”

Arrest warrants against Putin and child rights representatives
A year ago, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maria Lwowa-Belowa, Russia’s commissioner for children’s rights. They are accused of war crimes such as the kidnapping and forced adoption of Ukrainian children to Russia.

The Russian government does not recognize the court (see video above), but the Ukrainian government does, but is also not a full contractual partner. The public prosecutor may still conduct an investigation, which began in the spring of 2022.
