35 years ago Michael Mittermeier won the cabaret bird in Graz – it was the start of a steep career. In an interview with “Krone”, the German comedy star recalls his beginnings and explains the role a sofa in a shared apartment in Graz played in his career.
“Kron”: The Grazer Kleinkunstvogel was a very young cabaret prize in 1988. How did you, as a young Bavarian, come to Graz at the time?
Mittermaier: I can still remember it well. I started with cabaret in 1986, played in a youth center in 1987 and there was a flyer for the Grazer Kleinkunstvogel – don’t ask me how it ended up in Bavaria – and then I just applied there. A few months later I was on the train to Graz – at that time it was still half a world trip, I thought to myself for a moment: I will never get there. But then it all turned out fine.
