The Burgenland fire brigade is constantly in action: an explosion and fire brought the emergency services to Unterwart on Thursday night. A few hours later they had to move again due to a silo fire at Markt Allhau.
An explosion in a residential building woke a man from his sleep in Unterwart (Oberwart district) on Thursday night. As a result, two garage doors were torn from their anchorage and the doors became deformed. The man first tried to extinguish the fire in the basement of the house, but failed and then called the fire brigade. The man suffered undetermined injuries in the fire and had to be taken to Oberwart Hospital.
Silo fire: Four fire brigades in action
Emergency services were called to a silo fire on Thursday morning. The silo at a funeral was already on fire on Tuesday evening. The owner became aware of the fire due to the heavy smoke. He immediately alerted the fire brigade. When the emergency services arrived on the scene, the silo was already completely on fire. Four fire brigades were deployed with eleven vehicles and had the fire under control after a few hours.
Fire flares up again in the silo
Almost two days later, the Markt Allhau fire brigade had to be deployed again. They were called to the same location. The silo burned again. This time the fire was discovered by the operator’s father. The fire has now been brought under control by three fire brigades. The damage is estimated at more than 200,000 euros.
The causes of the fire are still under investigation in both cases. The police and fire brigade were initially unable to provide more information.
