During the State of the Union address to Congress, the US president demanded that Israel not use humanitarian aid as a “negotiating tool.”
As the White House had already advanced, the president Joe Biden has announced that the United States will build a port in the Gaza Strip that will allow food and medicine to enter the Palestinian enclave.
“Tonight, I am directing the United States military to lead an emergency mission to… temporary dock in the Mediterranean, on the coast of Gazathat can receive large ships carrying food, water and medicine,” he said during the State of the Union address to Congress.
According to the president, this operation will not require the deployment of American soldiers on the ground.
Food and medicine shipments will take place from Cyprusas reported by US government sources.
On the other hand, he addressed Israeli leaders: “humanitarian aid cannot be a secondary element or a bargaining chip.”
Likewise, Biden has reiterated the need for one two-state solution to resolve the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. “The only real solution is a two-state solution. And I say this as a supporter of Israel and the only American president to visit Israel in times of war,” he added.
