At the beginning of March, Israel imposed a blockade for assistance in the Gaza Strip. It was not until the end of May that Israel separated the blockade to the population in the fight against the militant Palestinian organization Hamas. But now the government in Jerusalem has suspended the distribution of auxiliary supplies. The reason is plundered by Hamas.
The decision was taken after new information indicated that Hamas would tear certain aid goods for citizens in the north of the Gaza Strip, it said in a statement. No further details were mentioned. A video spread on Wednesday showed dozens of masked men on trucks, some with guns, but the most armed with sticks (see X-posts below).
The High Commission for Tribal Affairs, which represents influential clans in the area, explained that the trucks were protected for auxiliary supplies as part of a security process. It was not a Hamas hunter among men. The clans have long been a fundamental part of society in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas denies looting
Hamas also disputed every participation. The militant group has been ruling the Gaza Strip for more than two decades, but only checks with Israel after almost two years. In the Gaza Strip there is now an acute lack of food and other goods of daily needs. Auxiliary cars and warehouses have been repeatedly looted in the past, often by desperate and starving Palestinians. Israel is now reportedly working on a plan to control Hamas the relief supplies.
