A man from Pinzgau wanted to protect a girl from her ex-boyfriend and became the victim of a serious attack. But: The main defendant (21) denies the attack with the broken beer bottle.
Because of his moral courage, a young man from Pinzgau will have spots on his face for the rest of his life, prosecutor Florian Weinkamer described on Friday during the trial at the Salzburg Regional Court and spoke of an “image of a terrifying willingness to commit violence”. On that evening of September 10, 2023, the accused young people were celebrating in a bar in Kaprun. The main accused, a Palestinian refugee (21), met his ex-girlfriend late at night. There was an argument. A pair of brothers from Pinzgau saw this and intervened, after which an argument broke out with the two main defendants.
Cutouts stitched with 35 stitches
The 21-year-old broke a beer bottle and pushed the broken bottle into the local man’s face. While he was on the ground, an accomplice – a local student (18) with a criminal record – kicked the victim. “It took 35 stitches to repair the torn face. The scars last a lifetime,” says Weinkamer.
“No one deserves scars like that,” the 18-year-old said, at least in an insightful and remorseful way. Unlike the 21-year-old, he only admitted punches during the trial, but not the serious laceration. He didn’t notice it until the next day. The other four co-suspects denied involvement in the crime.
The verdict was still pending on Friday afternoon.
