Traffic stop – jumped out of car while trying to escape police

Date:

On Wednesday evening, around 8:30 p.m., there was an unusual scene on the streets of Feldkirchen. A 64-year-old man was asked to stop by a civilian patrol from the state traffic department, but he fled.

It all started when the police wanted to stop the man’s van in Oberglan. After initially stopping his vehicle, he suddenly accelerated and attempted to avoid the stop. A short chase ended in the man’s driveway, where he jumped out of his car and fled on foot. However, the police officers were able to stop him and asked him to identify himself, which he refused.

Handcuffs clicked
“The 64-year-old actively resisted arrest and even tried to defend himself against being restrained by the officers,” police said. Ultimately, due to his strong resistance, the police had to arrest him for attempting to resist state power.

A subsequent alcohol test revealed mild intoxication. His driver’s license was confiscated at the scene. He is now charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting state authority.

Two more license checks
A 20-year-old from Klagenfurt also lost his driver’s license on Tuesday. The probationary license holder was caught driving at a speed of 96 km/h on Villacher Straße in Klagenfurt. On Wednesday, an alcoholic 25-year-old from Villach caused an accident on Rossegger Landesstraße (L52) when he suddenly left the road to the right. “He collided with two road marking posts and came to a stop after a few meters in the ditch,” police said. Although the man was unharmed, he had to surrender his driver’s license because he was heavily intoxicated.
