Difficult operation for the rescuers on Friday evening near Nitscha (Weiz district in Styria). After a head-on collision between two cars, both drivers were trapped in their vehicles. They were seriously injured.
On Friday around 8:45 p.m., a 19-year-old drove his vehicle on the B54 from Pischelsdorf towards Gleisdorf. At the same time, a 57-year-old driver was in the opposite lane and drove toward the 19-year-old.
For unknown reasons, a violent head-on collision took place between the two vehicles on the so-called Gamlingleiten. Both vehicles were thrown off the road and ended up in the ditch.
Because one of the two vehicles automatically made an emergency call after the accident, the rescuers were quickly on the spot and were able to provide first aid to the seriously injured. However, what complicated the rescue was that both drivers were trapped in their vehicles.
The Nitscha and Gleisdorf fire brigades secured the accident scene and freed the two drivers from their vehicles. After initial treatment on site, the Red Cross took her to LKH Graz or UKH Graz.
How exactly the accident could have happened has yet to be clarified. An alcohol test was initially not possible for both drivers due to the severity of the injuries.
