A smoking coffee machine caused a Lufthansa plane to make an unscheduled stop in Hamburg on its way from Frankfurt to Gothenburg.
As a Lufthansa spokesperson announced on Saturday, Lufthansa flight LH818 made a precautionary stopover in Hamburg in the evening due to a brief local smoke development in the forward galley. The flight crew declared an air emergency to obtain a priority landing in Hamburg.
The Airbus A319 landed normally and taxied independently to the gate, and the passengers departed the aircraft normally.
No danger to passengers
The cause of the smoke is now being extensively investigated by technicians. According to the initial findings, a coffee machine was defective. There was no danger to guests or crew at any time during the flight. The passengers would fly to Gothenburg that evening on a replacement plane.
The warning strike at Lufthansa had ended earlier Saturday (see video above).
