Terror Trial – IS Trial: Young, Stupid – But Extremely Dangerous

Date:

“All in the name of the terrorist organization!”, the public prosecutor describes the actions of the four suspects. They would have supported the Islamic State. Now they are in the dock of the Vienna court.

Masked and fully equipped, countless prison guards fill the courtroom. A terror trial involving the radical Islamic terrorist militia, the Islamic State, begins in Vienna. This time the focus is on the recruitment of IS fighters. One of the four accused is former ‘hate preacher’ Mirsad O. This is his third terror trial. According to the prosecutor, he radicalized himself years ago and spread his destructive attitude throughout Europe.

Vienna as “hub”
But that’s not all: he is said to have given young people logistical support to travel to Syria and join IS. “Vienna became a hub for young Muslims from all over Europe,” the prosecutor continued. The radicalized were given psychological encouragement to travel to Syria from an Austrian who was also accused (27). “The IS only has its power through such actions,” emphasizes the public prosecutor.

20,000 euros donations for terror
But the recruitment was not over yet: under the guise of wanting to collect donations for war aid, 20,000 euros were collected – for terror. A Bosnian (35) would have participated as auctioneer. His lawyer Nikolas Rast explains: “Young people were influenced by sermons. He was one of them, young and stupid.”

deradicalisation in jail
An Afghan (43) also has to answer to court – for hate speech and recruitment. He denies it. Mirsad O. pleads guilty. His current prison sentence helps him to “deradicalize”. He now even has a Catholic pastor. At the earliest, there must be a verdict on June 23.
