Heavy turbulence – Boeing passenger: “People flew through the cabin!”

Date:

A “technical problem” caused severe turbulence on board the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on Monday. At least 50 people were injured in the incident on a flight between Sydney, Australia and the New Zealand city of Auckland.

“People flew through the cabin,” Radio New Zealand (RNZ) quoted one passenger as saying, who was unhurt. Most of those affected were not wearing seat belts at the time of the incident, he said.

The plane was able to land in Auckland as planned, but would travel to Santiago de Chile in the evening. However, the flight was canceled and postponed to Tuesday.

Dozens of injured people taken to hospital
The injured, including some crew members, were immediately treated by doctors after landing. Rescue workers arrived on site with five ambulances. There is at least one seriously injured person. More than a dozen prisoners were taken to hospitals.

The problems at Boeing do not end there
In January, an incident involving a nearly new Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-8 Max caused a fuselage fragment to break off shortly after takeoff. The more than 170 people on board were largely shocked. The US Department of Justice is investigating the case.
